Junior football: Colts gallop back into the promotion race
UNDER 12: THORNEY Colts bounced back to winning ways by beating Oundle 7-1 to put their promotion bid back on track.
After a shock loss to Parkway Eagles, Thorney needed to get their show back on the road and they did that in some style against Oundle as Luke Fitzjohn and Reece Crane both hit hat-tricks.
Joshua Warren was also on target as the Colts cantered to a comfortable success despite falling behind with less than 30 seconds on the clock when Nialls Guinness netted for Oundle.
The result leaves Thorney sitting second in the table and in with a real chance of earning a spot in Division One next season. But despite his side’s excellent form manager Michael Shuster is not sure if his young Colts are ready to leave the Division Two comfort zone.
He said: “Looking at it now you would have to say that we are in a very good position to push for promotion but I am not sure we will be ready. We are very comfortable at this level but if the boys earn the chance then we will just have to take it as it comes.
“My only concern is that we may struggle physically in Division One, football-wise we won’t have a problem. But we cannot get too far ahead and we will know a lot more about our chances once we have played Corby, who are the current leaders.”
