Junior football: Carman leads the way for Leverington
UNDER 11: LEVERINGTON couldn’t have wished for a better debut in Junior Alliance football this season.
Despite being new to the local scene, the fanstastic Fen footballers have taken Division Four by storm and they were in top form again at Riverside on Sunday.
Danny Carman led the way with a hat-trick as Leverington opened up a whopping 12-point lead at the top of the table with a 6-1 win against the struggling city side.
Tommy Wiles also helped himself to a couple of goals and Lewis Stern got his name on the scoresheet as Leverington made it 13 wins from 13 league games so far.
And while manager Nigel Dennis is reluctant to start looking too far ahead, cup results against teams from the higher divisions seem to suggest that Leverington will cope comfortably with the step up.
Dennis said: “I am really pleased with the way it has gone so far this season. To go 13 games without dropping a league point is a great effort but we still have a long way to go.”
n GLINTON Red are too far off the pace to win the Division One title but on current form they look like having a big say in who does.
Hampton went into their game at Beaumont Way knowing a win would be enough to take them top of the table. But two goals from Bradley Breen saw the Reds take the points with their third win in a row.
Manager Carl Garner said: “Over the past few games the boys have really been playing some beautiful football and it was more of the same on Sunday. The conditions were really difficult as the pitch soon turned to mud but they still managed to play some great stuff.
“I think we are too far off the pace to win the league but we could climb as high as third which is now our target.”
