Coates Athletic moved back to the top of the Peterborough Premier Division on Saturday (January 24) even though their scheduled match at Deeping Rangers Reserves was called off.

Previous leaders Oakham were beaten 2-0 at home bny Mouldon Harrox and the second of two Ian Bradbury goals was enough to give Coates top spot on goal difference.

In fact it turned into the perfect day for Andy Lodge’s all-stars as third-placed Netherton and fourth-placed Stilton United were also beaten.

Netherton lost their city derby 3-2 to ICA Sports at The Grange. The visitors, who might have been helped by some inflammatory pre-match comments by Netherton boss Jon Harrison, enjoyed a superb start as Andrew Cook scored twice in the opening 22 minutes.

Harrison pulled a goal back for Netherton before the break, but a third ICA goal for Liam Gallagher made Stephen Mastin’s last-gasp strike for the home side an irrelevance.

Stilton were surprisingly beaten at home by lowly Uppingham. The visitors won 3-2 with Jordan Neil scoring twice. Garry Beaver and Liam Rodden scored for Stilton, but Jason Cook was sent off.

Chris Down, the subject of a health scare in a match before Christmas when he collapsed on the pitch at Pinchbeck, was back in action at the weekend and scored twice in Sawtry’s 5-1 win at Thorney. Zack Fisher also bagged a brace.

Crowland have returned to the foot of the table after losing 3-2 at home to Langtoft for whom Jobi Froud scored twice.

Leverington, who were bottom mainly because of a huge points deduction, climbed above Crowland after pipping Pinchbeck 5-4.

There won’t be an all Premier Division clash in the Hunts Intermediate Cup Final as Riverside lost their delayed semi-final 3-0 in Brampton. Stilton will be Brampton’s opponents in the final.
