Alex fires Spalding back into top spot

UNDER 11

ALEX Richardson was the hat-trick hero as Spalding bounced back against Deeping Claret to go top of Division One with a 3-0 win.

After stumbling to a shock defeat to Stamford, the young Tulips were determined to get back on track in Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Deeping.

Thanks to Richardson’s treble they did just that to get their noses out in front in the race for this season’s top flight crown. But according to manager Steve Williamson his side will need a fair bit of luck to stay clear of the field.

He said: “I thought Deeping contributed a lot to a really good game of football and the only real difference between the sides was that we were able to take our chances.

“It was a good result, especially after losing to Stamford and it is nice to be top of the table. But I am certainly not going to overstate our title chances as there are a lot of teams below us with plenty of games in hand. But we are still involved and I would be disappointed if we didn’t finish at least fifth this season.”

n CAMERON Guest scored twice as Netherton moved into second place behind Spalding by beating Hampton 3-1.

Alex Moroz was also on target for Netherton who are level on points with the leaders with two games in hand. Ollie Foster scored for Hampton.

n DEEPING Blue delivered a sizzling second-half show to see off Bourne 6-0 in Division Two.

Lucas Kimpton put the league leaders 1-0 up at the break but they saved their best for the second half when Kimpton nabbed his second - a feat matched by Tom Baxter, who also scored twice, while Oliver Piddington and William Robinson were also on target.

The win means the PFA Cup semi-finalists and League Cup quarter finalists are yet to drop a point in the league this season.

Manager John Carver said: “They made us wait but once we got our second goal after the break we were comfortable and I thought the boys played some very good football.”

n POWERLEAGUE completed the perfect 10 with a 3-1 win at Glinton.

Miles Peake, Callum Hogg and Jake McLaughlin were the lads on target for the Division Three leaders who hope to maintain their stunning form to the end of the season.

Manager Joe Iantosca said: “We are going great guns at the moment and I don’t want to sound too big-headed but it would be nice to think that the boys could now go to the end of the season unbeaten.”

n TOMMY Wiles served up six of the best as Leverington beat Hungate in a thrilling Division Four top-of-the-table clash.

Liam Dennis also got his name on the scoresheet as the Leverington lads triumphed 7-5 to secure their 15th straight league win of the season.
