YAXLEY LYNX 7, WITTERING HARRIERS 1

Under 10 Red Zone: HAVING made enough noise to wake the dead celebrating their first goal of the season, heaven only knows what's likely to happen when Wittering actually win a football match. But it would be fair to say all hell is likely to break loose, not that it ever looked likely to happen against league leaders Yaxley Lynx on Saturday morning.

Despite being seven goals down and already well beaten, the Harriers never let their heads drop and kept battling until finally getting their just reward.

With just seconds of the game remaining Connor Gillespie picked up the ball before passing it on to Nialls Guinness who smashed home a goal which Harriers boss Michelle Fry hopes will prove to be something of a turning point.

She said: "We expected to be beaten by Yaxley as they are a great side but we never stopped battling and working hard.

"And when the goal went in they all just went ballistic, absolutely mad. To see the happy faces of those little lads as they came off the pitch makes it all worth it.

"They may have lost every game but they just love their football and always play with lots of enthusiasm and keep the belief that something will go their way and on Saturday it did.

"That goal will do wonders for their confidence and I hope that first win of the season is not too long away now."

For Yaxley on the other hand winning has become something of a habit this season - in fact so far this campaign they have done nothing else.

Seven games and seven wins has left James Royle's side three points clear at the top of the table and they got off to the perfect start against Wittering with an Emma Pollard double giving them a 2-0 lead at half-time.

And after the break they really hit their stride with George Lindsey extending his side's lead before Liam Sanderson bashed home his first of the game a few minutes later.

At this stage Lynx were purring on cruise control and always looked likely to add to their tally.

And before long they did when Sanderson grabbed his second of the match, leaving it to James Foreman to complete the scoring for his side.

Royle said: "We are playing some excellent stuff at the moment but I would like to say that Wittering really impressed me with their attitude and their football.

"They made it hard for us at times but if we keep playing as we are then I am sure we will be sound as a pound in the title race this season."
