Junior Football: Archer hits the bullseye as Werrington bounce back

Under 14: WERRINGTON boss Jed Jarvis hopes to be scratching his seven-year itch come the end of the season.

Under 14: WERRINGTON boss Jed Jarvis hopes to be scratching his seven-year itch come the end of the season. For the best part of a decade, Jarvis has been trying to get his hands on the league title and with a bit of luck and a fair wind, this could be his time.

After being beaten by reigning champions Yaxley last week, Werrington showed the resolve they will need to become contenders with a 3-0 win against Wittering.

Goals for Lewis Archer and Matthew Jarvis in the first half set the city side on their way before Archer doubled his tally shortly after the break to make sure of the points.

Now Jarvis, who led his side to PFA Cup glory last season, hopes they can find the consistency needed to challenge for the title.

He said: "We were determined to bounce back from the disappointment of the defeat to Yaxley last week and we managed to do that which is a good sign.

"It did leave a bitter taste in our mouths but we have moved on and are looking good. We played well on Sunday and if we had been a bit more ruthless it could have been a bit more.

"We just need to make sure we keep it all together as consistency is the real key to winning league titles. I have been trying to do it for seven years so it would be great to finally do it."

LAST season's Division One runners up Wisbech St Mary picked up their second win of the season after beating Northborough 4-3.

Despite an illness which had ravaged his side, Danny Hughes' boys dug deep to take the points after a cracking tussle with their newly promoted guests.

Jake Burton, Harley Kitching, Lewis Clayton and Ashley Blanchflower were Saints scorers while Harry Ledger, Evan Ladley and Alex Mantaleris hit the back of the net for Northborough.

THE hard work paid off for Glinton Orange on Sunday when they beat Thorney Colts 2-0 to seal their first Division Two win of the season. Kenny Gray and Aaron Robinson hit the goals to get Gavin Slater's side up and running.

Slater said: "It was good to get the first win of the season under our belts. The boys have been working really hard in training and Sunday's win was their reward."

CROWLAND have started life in Division Three with a bang.

A thumping 10-0 win against Woodston on Sunday made it four wins from four games for Graham Davies' side who have now scored 41 goals without conceding any.

Nathan Parillon led the way with four goals at Woodston, George Michie scored a hat-trick and there were also goals for Ashton Capes, Aaron Eyett and Ryan Jackson.

Now after such a good start, Davies is confident that promotion is a very real prospect for his side.

He said: "We are a bit mix and match but it seems to be working out well.

"A few of the lads were with Glinton Black and Holbeach last season while a few have never played league football before but the balance is very good.

"Defensively we have also been very solid with Aiden Bingham, Jack Blackbird, Jack Pigott and Dan Meader keeping it tight while my lad Kane is performing well in goal.

"The way we are going I will be very disappointed if we don't get promoted come the end of the season."
