Thorney blew the Peterborough Premier Division title race wide open again by scoring a shock success at favourites Oakham United on Saturday (March 21).

Two goals from Scott Murthwaite and another from Reece Kenton delivered the 3-2 victory for Thorney that knocked Oakham off the top of the table.

Coates Athletic took full advantage of Oakham’s slip to move back into pole position with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Sawtry. Joe Butterworth (2) Matt Heron and Adam Piergianni scored the goals for Coates.

Coates are two points clear at the top, but Oakham have two matches in hand and should return to the summit with a win over lowly Crowland on Wednesday (March 25).

If third-placed Stilton win all their remaining games they will be champions as they have both Oakham and Coates still to play.

Stilton followed up their Hunts County Cup Final win last week with a 3-1 success at bottom club Leverington. Craig Smith (2) and Ritchie Baines scored the Stilton goals.

Moulton Harrox won their top-six clash at ICA Sports with a solitary Macauley Grimwood goal and Netherton bashed Riverside 6-1 in a city derby. Six different scorers were on target for Netherton - Dwayne Rankin, Adam Scott, Steve Mastin, Lee Clementson, Tommy Randall and Conner Goddon.

Jacob Smitheringale was the Langtoft match-winner at Peterborough Sports Reserves and Oliver Maltby bagged a hat-trick for Pinchbeck United in a 5-1 win at Deeping Rangers Reserves.

The PFA Senior Cup semi-finals are scheduled for this Saturday (March 28, 1.30pm kick-offs). Holders ICA host Netherton and favourites Coates are at Deeping Rangers Reserves. A final on the hallowed turf at Peterborough United’s ABAX Stadium is the prize for the winners.

The PFA Challenge Cup semi-finals played on Saturday were won by Baston and Moulton Harrox Reserves. Baston won their all Division One tie against Netherton at the Grange on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Daniel Pick scored Baston’s goal.

Moulton Harrox Reserves, also of Division One, won 2-0 at Division Two side Crowland Reserves thanks to goals from Declan Earth and David Wilson.
