Spalding hope to open their competitive campaign on a high note tonight when they take on Grantham in the Lincs Senior Shield.

Spalding hope to open their competitive campaign on a high note tonight when they take on Grantham in the Lincs Senior Shield. The two teams meet at the Sir Halley Stewart Field (kick-off 7.30pm) with four new faces hoping to make an impact.

New boss Mark Hone has managed to lure former Ilkeston Town centre-half Luke Walker to the club as well as midfielder Luke Forbes who had featured for the Tulips under previous boss Phil Hubbard.

Also likely to play a role in the game are former Ramsey Town man Nick Kay and 16 year-old wonderkid Thomas Grantham who has been asked to step up having won a move from Spalding Athletic Juniors.

The Tulips will be hoping to go one step further than Unibond Division One South rivals and last season's winners Stamford who crashed out of the same competition following a 4-0 defeat to Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday.

Tonight the Daniels will be hoping to bounce back from that defeat in a friendly against Bedford Town at the Vic Couzens Stadium while Deeping take on Peterborough Northern Star and Yaxley travel to Wisbech.
