Fletton hit eleven past sorry Sports

FLETTON produced the perfect response to last weekend's PFA Cup exit by smashing 11 goals past Premier Division whipping boys Peterborough Sports.Manager Ian Rudd was far from pleased after his side's surprise loss to Division One Coates last weekend but an emphatic display on their return to Premier League action put the smile back on the gaffer's face.

An improved attitude from his players saw sorry Sports torn to pieces with Adam Bevilacqua (2), Andrew Bradley (2), Dean Clarke (2), Stuart Eason (2), Lee D'Arcy, Graham Morris and Gareth Sanderson all on target.

The win puts Fletton just a point behind leaders Ramsey – who also had a big 7-0 win against Stamford Bels.

Rudd said: "the lads got a real rollocking after the Coates game and again before this one and to be fair they took it on board and gave me a perfect response.

"We were just not at it against Coates and I said at the time that if we played like that in the league we could forget all about winning it.

"But against Sports it was back to normal and the lads had a great attitude. They played some great football and scored some excellent goals.

"It is a good thing that we were able to get that cup result out of our systems so soon and I am hopeful after that performance that we can really push on now and put together a real title challenge."

At the other end of the Premier Division table there was good news for Crowland who shocked Alconbury at home with a 2-0 win.

The result saw Paul Harrison's side haul themselves out of the bottom three thanks to goals from Michael Craig and Martin Ward, despite playing the last 30 minutes with nine men.

In Jaguar Division One last weekend's conquerors of Fletton, Coates, kept up the pressure on Warboys with a 1-0 win against Long Sutton thanks to a goal from Paul Hibbins while in Vauxhall Division Two a Lee Ayres hat-trick proved the highlight of league leaders Powerleague's 7-1 win against Gedney Hill.

In the cups Whittlesey progressed in the PFA Senior Cup at the expense of Thorney with goals for Ian Christine and Gerry Jackson while Ramsey romped into the next round of the Hunts Lower Junior Cup with a 7-1 win at Sawtry.

In the Northants Area Cup two goals for Carl Bartlett wrapped couldn't prevent Eye crashing out to Kettering Ise Lodge while Oundle smashed James King Blisworth FC 12 with Martin Thorpe scoring four of the goals.
