POSH were forced to apologise to fans on Saturday as the biggest Football League crowd at London Road for six years caused chaos.

POSH were forced to apologise to fans on Saturday as the biggest Football League crowd at London Road for six years caused chaos.Scores of fans had to be transferred from the Family Stand to the Main Stand during the first 15 minutes of the top of the table clash with MK Dons for safety reasons.

That included many season ticket holders who were denied the right to sit in their normal seat.

Posh blamed the overcrowding on supporters arriving late to the game which attracted a bumper gate of 10,351

A club statement read: "Following the late arrival of many supporters it was decided to close the full sections of the ground for safety reasons.

"This led to some supporters not being able to sit in their allocated seating, however all supporters were accommodated within the ground as soon as possible. We aplogise for any inconvenience."

One fan who contacted The Evening Telegraph said: "I was in the ground at 2.30pm which was a reasonable time for a season ticket holder, but my seat was taken and after much hanging around I was switched to the other side of the ground. I eventually sat down at 3.15pm which is unacceptable when the ground was only three-quarters full."

It was the biggest crowd at London Road for a Football League match since the final game of the 2000-01 season when the visit of Rotherham attracted 11,274.
