PETERBOROUGH Athletic Club made home advantage count as they won their Eastern Young Athletes League Meeting at the Embankment Track.

PETERBOROUGH Athletic Club made home advantage count as they won their Eastern Young Athletes League Meeting at the Embankment Track.Although beaten by Stevenage and North Herts in four of the six age groups, the Under 17 men and Under 15 boys stacked up enough points to win the match.

Joel Grenfell (below) chalked up yet another Under 15 boys 100m, 200m and long jump treble and Jake Berney (sprints) and Louis Tierney ensured PAC took maximum points in those events.

Max Everest improved his club record to win the sprint hurdles and he also took the high jump where Tierney again supported with a B-string win and a second personal best (PB) of the day. Another to chalk up two PBs was Tom Holyoake with a 400m/800m double while Kieran Jack took two seconds off his 1500m PB when finishing third, one place behind Hunts Athletic Club’s James Downing.

Jack Jones played a big part in the Under 17 men’s success with three wins while Michael Frankland, Adam Kimber and Peter Godly chalked up doubles. Ashley Watson won the 100m and set a PB when second in the 200m while Hunts ace Jonathan Edwards set yet another best in the discus.

Dennis Penny-Toure was another Hunts youngster to impress with victories and PBs in the sprint hurdles and long jump. Harry Wybrow gave good support by taking the B-string hurdles in a PB and George Seach set a new best to give support in the high jump.

Charlie Jones, younger brother of Jack, recorded a double for PAC for whom Matthew Miles set a PB in the 100m.

The Under 17 women’s age group saw Hunts’ Lily Seach record a 200m/300m double while Rebecca Huxtable took the 100m and long jump for PAC. Penelope Ford also weighed in with two wins, including the javelin where Jess Bull took the A-string with a PB.

Megan Edwards won the Under 15 girls 100m and set a PB when second in the long jump while the 300m saw both Megan Sanderson and Jay Bingham breaking 46 seconds for the first time for a PAC A and B-string double. Renee Earl Jarrett sprinted well for maximum points from her two events.

Ella de Lucis produced two wins and a pair of PBs in the Under 13 girls age group while Katie Scholey and Rebecca Pedley recorded an 800m double for Hunts.

n ROBERT Mohan improved his Nene Valley Harriers and Oakham School records when finishing fourth in the shot at the English Under 20 Championships at Bedford.

Ranked fifth before the competition, he was pleased with his display as he sent the shot out to 16.71m and will now look for a medal at the English Schools Championships where he finished third last year.

Peterborough Athletic Club’s Emily Moss improved her 400m hurdles personal best in both heats and final, where she finished fifth, while Deeping’s Julian Adeniran went home with bronze in the 110m hurdles.

Another Nene Valley athlete, Daniel Patterson, finished 11th in the Under 15 boys 800m in 2.43.4.

n NENE Valley Harrier Andy Sockalingum won the Hampton Fun Run, beating clubmate Jack Moore into second place.
