Derby defeat for Peterborough Saxons

Peterborough Saxons felt the full force of the British American Football League's most potent offence in their latest outing.

Peterborough Saxons felt the full force of the British American Football League's most potent offence in their latest outing. The city side went down 50-28 to the Cambridge Cats in their Division One South East Conference fixture at Stanground College.

But Saxons delivered a spirited performance in an attempt to silence the critics predicting relegation following the loss of several key personnel.

Indeed Adam Gumbs claimed an 11-yard rushing touchdown to open the scoring for Saxons and the teams went on to trade touchdowns in the first half.

Dervan Alleyne claimed two, the second with a dazzling 85-yard kick-off return, while Texan Tim Johnson also crossed against his old club.

But the game was settled on a Saxons fumble deep in Cambridge territory.

The visitors went on to claim three unanswered touchdowns to clinch a flattering final scoreline.

Saxons were due to tackle Kent Exiles today at RAF Alconbury as part of the base's Independence Day celebrations.

Tickets are also on sale for the second annual Tri-Base Bowl which again takes place on RAF Alconbury on Sunday, August 23. For prices and availability e-mail info@thesaxons.co.uk.
