Deeping boss is threatening to make changes

EAGLE BITTER UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE League Cup semi-final

EAGLE BITTER UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE League Cup semi-finalDEEPING 0 DAVENTRY TN 3

DEJECTED boss Tuncay Korkmaz issued a clear warning to his Deeping players after their big cup date ended in defeat.

Rangers crashed out at the hands of runaway Division One leaders Daventry Town – and the reason for their untimely exit was obvious to the manager.

"It came down to who wanted it more and that was definitely them," blasted Korkmaz.

"The result is probably a combination of Daventry being a decent side and us being very poor on the day.

"There is no way to legislate for up to seven players having an off-day and that is what happened.

"We need to finish the season on a high and I will be looking for the players to show me what they are about with a view to the future otherwise we might have to look at making some changes."

Deeping found themselves 2-0 down in the opening quarter-of-an-hour and could not respond.

John-Paul Duncliffe hit a post with a free-kick before David Cobb blasted the follow-up over – and that was as close as Rangers got.

Daventry sealed their win with a late third from the penalty spot and it proved to be a great day for the Daventry lads as results elsewhere confirmed them as Division One champions.

Deeping: Bircham, Duncliffe, Goude, Porter, Woods, Stevenson, Ellison, Cobb, Weston (Bettinson), Ellis (Kingston), Matson (Thompson).

YAXLEY 0 LONG BUCKBY 5

YAXLEY chief Gary Clipston admitted his players were given a footballing lesson by brilliant Buckby.

The title-chasers dished out a Leading Drove drubbing to a young Cuckoos side.

And had it not been for some spectacular goalkeeping from John Feetham, the scoreline would have mad even more sorry reading for Yaxley.

Clipston said: "Long Buckby are the best side I have seen down at our place for many years.

"They absolutely battered us and gave us a real lesson, but this will be a good experience for my young lads."

Yaxley: Feetham, Russell, Thomas (Blake), Gospel, Crick, Piergianni (Steward), Blewitt, Rimmell, Makansi (Eason), Salerno, Jacob.

DESBOROUGH 1 HOLBEACH 2

AN Ian Dunn double left Holbeach basking in the glory of one of their finest days of the season.

The experienced frontman struck both Tigers goals in the first half as they condemned high-flying Desborough to a first home defeat of the season.

And boss Shaun Keeble reacted to this marvellous success by daring his players to upset two more of the Premier Division's top dogs over Easter. Holbeach host leaders Stotfold on Saturday and then face Boston Town on Easter Monday.

Chuffed Keeble said: "We are the first team to win there all season and it proves what we are capable of doing.

"We could have won it more comfortably and we are determined to finish the season on a high.

"If we can get something in the two Easter games as well I will be well satisfied."

Holbeach: Conroy, Coupland, Thompson, Elston, Jackson, Joof, Warfield, Nicholls, Pascu, Dunn, Treacher. Unused: Barnes, S. Keeble, Penney.

BOURNE 0 COGENHOE 0

BOURNE picked up a precious point in their survival fight.

The Wakes shared the spoils with Cogenhoe in this Abbey Lawns stalemate.

Caretaker manager Darren Munton said: "This game is more evidence that we are lacking a real goalscorer at this level, but we still picked up a good point.

"We huffed and puffed but never really threatened their goal."

Bourne have three games remaining and appear to be in a straight fight for survival with Wootton – a team currently three points behind them but with a game in hand.

Munton added: "Wootton should get three points out of their game against bottom side Kempston which would bring them level, but we have a much better goal difference.

"It is basically a case of having to match them but a couple of wins should see we are alright."

Bourne: Bellairs, Gough, Holland, Sparks, Ridout, Currall, Hipkiss (Barker), Wiley (Spearink), Barrick, Stainsby (Palmer), Harrison. Unused: Walklin.

Division One

BUCKINGHAM 0 NORTHERN STAR 4

STAR produced another second-half onslaught to continue their sparkling recent run.

Defenders Chris Plummer and Paul Hill set the ball rolling with headed goals as the city side secured a sixth win in their past seven games.

Substitute Ryan Francis (left on the bench after arriving late) hit the third Star goal before club hot-shot Karl Gibbs completed another smooth success.

Boss Tommy Cooper said: "It was a question of when we would score rather than if we would.

"It was an absolute quagmire of a pitch which made life difficult, so I am very pleased to come through with another three points."

But Northern Star are facing up to a hectic week ahead without several injured and suspended players.

They go to Rushden & Higham tomorrow night and face runaway leaders Daventry Town on Saturday with Cooper adding: "Unfortunately things beyond my control might dictate the way our season goes."

Carl Harper made his Star debut after moving from Peterborough League side Alconbury.

Northern Star: Lubniewski, Patten, Harper, Hill, Plummer, Fortune (Robinson), Morris, Nyang, Gibbs, Mohammed (Francis), Scotcher (Haine).

THRAPSTON 0 HUNTINGDON 1

TOWN completed a hat-trick of successive away wins in this Friday night fixture.

Midfield marvel Ricky Dear's magnificent early volley was enough to secure maximum points for Darren Young's promotion hopefuls.

The former St Neots man has been in sparkling form since making his comeback from serious knee damage a few weeks ago.

Eddie Mills twice went close to adding to Huntingdon's advantage and Chris Caswell steered a late header just wide.

Keeper Craig Patterson celebrated a clean sheet on his Town debut after moving from Desborough.

Huntingdon: Patterson, Moran, Duroe, Dear, Hackett, Ray, Mills, Taylor (Banda), Caswell, Edwards, Bassett (Young).

LINCS SENIOR TROPHY Semi-final

BLACKSTONES 1 WINTERTON RANGERS 0

STONES are within touching distance of a slice of glory at the end of their splendid season after booking their place in the final courtesy of an early Ross Watson goal.

The midfield man volleyed home after five minutes and Northern Counties East League Premier Division leaders Winterton could not find a reply.

"To a man we were absolutely fantastic," said Stones boss Tony Lowther. "Every single player put in a great display against opponents who were very physical and very strong."

Stones are also through to the semis of the Hinchingbrooke Cup which will be staged next month.

Blackstones: Flavell, Jones, Sheehan, Blowers, Doyle, D. Cotton, Watson, Smith, Kennedy, Harrold, Kuhne (Stevens). Unused: Hussey, A. Cotton, Simpson.
