Cycling: Church blasts to a Fenland club record

MALCOLM Church made the most of the good conditions at the CDLCA 25-mile time trial at Etwall near Derby to produce a Fenland Clarion club record.

MALCOLM Church made the most of the good conditions at the CDLCA 25-mile time trial at Etwall near Derby to produce a Fenland Clarion club record.The 63 year-old recorded 55.32 which gives him a plus of 22.13 on his vets standard time.

It was also an improvement of one minute 28 seconds on the record he set last year.

The Hereward League inter-club time trial competition saw Fenland Clarion out in force over a 10 mile course around Helpston.

In breezy conditions, Phil Ackerman finished second in 22.33, just edging out Simon Pitchford who set a personal best of 22.35.

SIMON Pitchford led home a Fenland Clarion contingent in the Northants road racing fixture at Old, finishing seventh.

He was closely followed home by Mike Shattock and Lindsay Clarke.
