James flies home

Nieve Bryant from Thorpe Ventures won the Under 8 age group from clubmate Madeline Keightley with the host clubs Katie Blake third. Cambridge rider Edie Palfreyman took the Under 10 honours ahead of St Ives rider Orla Kenna, while Boston rider Paige Elding was the Under 12 winner. She pipped Clarions Devonne Picaver by a point.  Under 16 winner was  Anastasia Magnago from St Ives.

Peterborough Cycling Club’s James Gelsthorpe from Deeping set a new club record time of 51mins 30secs racing in the Etwell 25 in Derbyshire

There was also a personal best for clubmate Steve Woods when he clocked 54:15 in the Newmarket 25.

In the Northants Time Trial League at Middleton, the club’s flying Belgian Christophe Demoulin finished fourth over the hilly 18.7-mile circuit with 42:40.

Paul Pardoe placed 11th in 44:33 and with Kevin Hobbs’ 46:30 a team win was achieved.

Fenland Clarion had the third rider home at Middleton in the shape of Dave Langlands in 41.47.

Other Fenland Clarion times were: Simon Pitchford in 44.48, Paul Lunn 44.49, Paul Lilley 45.33, Steve Kaye 45.49, Mark Ingram 45.54, Daniel Hustwayte 46.49, Malc Jacklin 47.37, Jerry Norman 47.56, Sean Beard 48.22, Richard Moys 48.51, Phil Merritt 53.16, Hasnain Dhanji 62.58.

The following day Langlands was fifth in the Bedfordshire roads 25-mile event with a time of 56.36.

Clarion’s Alison Lilley finished fourth out of a field of 71 riders in the Lovello Cinelli Womens 40-mile road race.
