Ackerman climbs his way to a Clarion win

Fenland Carion rider Phil Ackerman saved his best until last when winning his club's end-of-season hill climb event on Sunday.

After seven second places this season, he at last found the winning touch when achieving a combined finishing time of 5mins 58secs for the two climbs at Collyweston and Ketton.

A total of 23 riders tackled the event, which was jointly promoted by Clarion and Peterborough CC, andTom Stokes riding for St Neots CC powered up both hills in an impressive 5:48 to clock the quickest time of the day.

Next came Ackerman to land the Clarion club prize and in third place - and winner of the Peterborough CC event - was David Sargeant in 5:59.

Peterborough CC runner-up was Paul Pardoe, who rode six minutes dead, while second in the Clarion stakes was Lynden Leadbeater with 6:02.
