March sign a young Aussie international

MARCH Town have signed up an Australian youth international as their overseas player for next season.

Ryan Meyer (21) is a former member of the Australian Under 19 squad. He’s a left-arm wrist spinner and handy middle order batsman.

Meyer, who is currently playing first grade cricket in Brisbane, has big shoes to fill though as he replaces fellow Aussie Matt Wilcox who has been a massive success in his two seasons at Burrowmoor Road.

Wilcox scored over 1,500 runs and took 68 wickets last year, but he completed the season suffering from a stress fracture of the foot, an injury which will keep him at home this summer.

March skipper Chris Ringham said: “Ryan looks a very exciting prospect.

“He must be as he was good enough for the Australian under 19 squad and he comes highly recommended.

“It will be good to have a spinner as we have not had that option in the last few seasons.”

March finished third in Cambs Division One last season behind champions Ramsey and Foxton.

Former March overseas player Steve Seymour claimed five Sri Lankan wickets for Victoria seconds in Australia last week.

Seamer Seymour, who spent two seasons at March in 2008-09, included world class batsman Kumar Sangakarra among his victims.

Another March cricketer making his mark Down Under is Andrew Mills who is in his first season with Prahran CC in Melbourne.

He has scored 366 runs at an average of 36.6 with a highest score of 113 not out.
