Local golden oldies go on tour with England

For Hunts veterans skipper Bob Milne it’s a sec0nd England tour after a successful jaunt to Sri Lanka last winter.

And this season he’s joined by county team-mate Gary Scotcher for a five-team tournament comprised of two England teams and three from the home country.

All the matches will be held in the Cape Town area with the final possibly being held at the famous Newlands Test venue.

Milne of Peterborough Town and Scotcher of Nassington CC are representing England South. The other teams involved are England North, Western Province North, Western Province South and Cape Town.

“If it’s half as good as the Sri Lanka tour, it will be a great experience,” Milne enthused.

“The cricket will be a good standard and the location is obviously superb.

“It’s an honour to be selected again and I’m pleased that Gary is coming with us.

“He enjoyed a good season of over 50s cricket with us last summer, scoring plenty of runs.”

The tournament is due to start on March 19 with the final scheduled for March 28. Newlands will host the final as long as the ground is not required for a first-class match.

This area has produced several golden oldie international cricketers.

Market Deeping all-rounder Nick Andrews was part of an England over 60s squad that won an Ashes competition in Australia in the winter.
