Hunts Over 50s won a nail-biting National Veterans Cup match by two runs against Cambs at Burwell yesterday (May 20).

The home side needed eight from the last over bowled by Barnack supremo Steve Best to pass Hunts’ 45-over total of 245-8, but they could manage only five.

Gary Scotcher, of Nassington, was the real bowling hero though taking 4-30 from seven overs to turn the game in Hunts’ favour.

Earlier Andy Reid (76) of St Ives and Ali Anthony (58) of Wisbech batted well for Hunts before Best contributed a quickfire 32.

Hunts had lost their opening group match in the competition to Lincs by 173 runs
