Cricket news from the Peterborough Telegraph - peterboroughtoday.co.uk/cricket

Cricket news from the Peterborough Telegraph - peterboroughtoday.co.uk/cricket

England Ladies, skippered by Pidley’s Charlotte Edwards, lost to by four runs to Australia in the Womens’ Twenty/20 World Cup Final in Colombo, Sri Lanka today (October 7).

Edwards inserted the Aussies who batted skilfully to post a decent total of 142-4. Edwards stuck four fours and a six in her innings of 28, but when she was caught in the deep the England run rate decreased dramatically.

England were left needing 42 off the last four overs which came down to 16 off the final over and six from the final ball, but the Australians kept the nerve to retain their crown.

England eventually closed on 138-9. It was just their second defeat in 26 Twenty/20 Internationals.

Consolation for Edwards arrived with the player-of-the-tournament prize which she won for scoring 172 runs in five innings.
