England Ladies cricket captain Charlotte Edwards hopes to be celebrating two World Cup wins in the next 12 months

Charlotte, who learnt the sport at Ramsey CC, is currently in New Zealand preparing for five Twenty/20 internationals and three one-day internationals.

But this month-long assignment is just the starter ahead of a massive main course of a Twenty/20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and a One-Day international World Cup in India.

Edwards is keen to regain the trophy for the shortest format as last time out the tournament proved a rare nightmare for a team ranked number one in the world.

“Losing in the early stages of the last Twenty/20 World Cup was a low point in my career,” Edwards admitted. “It still eats away at me and we are all determined to make amends.

“Our T20 form of late has been brilliant and if we keep going as we are we will fancy our chances.

“We can still improve though in both forms of the game. We know what we have to work on and we are excited about putting those plans into operation in New Zealand.”

England will expect to brush New Zealand aside over the next month, but the skipper won’t allow for complacency. Her team have been wonderfully consistent over the last couple of years, but then so had England’s men ahead of their recent disastrous series with Pakistan.

Edwards added: “New Zealand are in a bit of a re-building stage so they have new players that we will know little about.

“But this is a great chance for us to get some more momentum ahead of two World Cups. Our players treat every match as a great opportunity and in World Cup year that is certainly the case.

“We know from our recent successes that consistency is the key. We are improving as a group and we are relishing the chance to impress in what should be a hectic 12 months.”

England play their first warm-up Twenty/20 match against the New Zealand emerging players on Saturday. The international Twenty/20 series opens on February 17 with the one-day matches beginning on March 1.

It’s the second tour of the winter for Edwards and England after a highly-successful visit to South African before Christmas.

England host India and the West Indies in the summer before travelling to Sri Lanka in September for the Twenty/20 World Cup. The One-Day World Cup takes place early in 2013.
