It was a great day (July 9) for Ramsey and a very important one for Ketton in Cambs Division One.

Ramsey were the only team who started the day in the top three to win, while Ketton demolished Nassington, who were second at 1pm, for just 44 to set up an eight-wicket success.

Gary Freear was in great nick for Wisbech against Foxton.

Nassington battled away for 26 overs at Pit Lane, but could never escape the vice-like grip of Ketton’s bowlers.

Seamer Will Compton returned the best figures of 4-8 from five overs and two balls, but spinners Ulrich Van Duyker (3-6 from five overs) and Matt Milner (2-13) were also at the top of their game.

Only Conor Craig (11) and skipper Alex Laud (10) reached double figures for Nassington before Ketton scooted to a victory that moved them clear of the bottom two.

Ramsey are now second after beating in-form neighbours Waresley by four wickets.

‘The Rams’ coasted past Waresley’s 153-6 following an opening stand of 108 between captain Michael Cafferkey (59) and Dean Jones (44). Cafferkey, who also took two wickets, bashed three sixes and eight fours.

Leaders Foxton were beaten by the best Wisbech performance of the season with Cambs players past and present, James Williams and Sam Rippington, in outstanding all-round form.

The pair put on a quickfire eighth-wicket stand of 88 to push Wisbech up to 255-7 in their 50 overs and took five wickets between them as Foxton replied with 143.

Williams crashed an unbeaten 61 from 39 balls (three sixes, four 4s), while Rippington whacked two sixes in his 34 from 27 balls. Gary Freear stroked 57 and bagged 3-39 with the ball for Wisbech. Rippington returned figures of 3-17.

In Division Two there was a handy bounce back to form from second-placed March who demolished bottom club Weston Colville by nine wickets. Anthony Palmer (4-11) was the main man as the visitors were skittled for just 65, a total March passed inside nine overs.

Brandon Phillips cracked an unbeaten 40 and there was a welcome return to the side for David Hodson (23no).

Newborough’s slide down the table continued with a 33-run defeat at Saffron Walden seconds, although the Bulls made a good fist of chasing 233-4.

Joe Malton (53) led the way with David Cooper (33) and Dave Stratton (31) chipping in with useful runs before Newborough were dismissed for 101.

Ufford Park, who were without captain Andy Larkin who picked up a facial injury in the final of the Burghley sixes the night before 9July 8), were shot out for 116 by Sawston & Babraham and lost by seven wickets.
