Bourne are hit by Masood departure

BOURNE’S hopes of a Lincs Premier Division title charge this summer have been dealt a blow by the departure of superstar professional Fahad Masood.

The Pakistani all-rounder has been a massive hit in two seasons at the Abbey Lawns. He took 69 wickets in 2010 as Bourne won the Premier Division title for the first time in a decade and last summer he smashed the competition record by claiming 86 victims as Bourne finished second behind Bracebridge Heath,

Masood is expected to play for a club in the North of England this summer. Bourne have replaced him with South African all-rounder Robin Gow-Kleinschmidt who will bat in the middle order and bowl seam.

Wicket-keeper Carl Wilson has also joined Bourne from Skegness.

Bourne chairman Hedley Stroud said: “Fahad did a great job but two years is probably enough for any overseas player.

“It will leave us perhaps a little short on the bowling side but nobody could follow what Fahad achieved. We are still hoping to find a third seamer.”

Peterborough Town have retained last year’s professionals Paul McMahon and Asim Butt as they attempt to dethrone Northants Premier Division champions Finedon.

Cambs Minor Counties skipper McMahon topped the Premier Division wicket-taking charts last summer. Butt was short of runs, but has been given another opportunity to re-discover his free-scoring form of 2010.

Castor have been recruiting following their promotion from Cambs Division Two last summer. Prolific batsman Tariq Aziz, a Portuguese international, is understood to have moved from Khalsa to Castor for the 2012 season.
