Andrews is still in superb Nick

THERE appears to be plenty of life in the old dogs of the Hunts Over 50s team.

Captain Nick Andrews of Market Deeping smashed a brilliant 150 and Gary Scotcher of Barnack finished unbeaten on 108 as Hunts moved closer to the knockout stages of the National Veterans Cup with a 119-run win over Norfolk at Wisbech.

Andrews and Scotcher added over 200 for the second wicket as Hunts piled up a county best 326-3 in their 45 overs. They piled up 200 from the final 20 overs with the final 50 of Andrews’ innings coming off just 20 balls.

Norfolk were restricted to 207-7 in reply.

Hunts have now won two of their three fixtures in an eight-man group. The top three qualify for the last 16 which is played on a knockout basis.

Scotcher said: “It must be the strongest side we’ve had in years, although ironically we were missing a couple of important batsmen this week.”

Andrews (58) was recording his first ton for five years, but it wasn’t quite a personal best.

Andrews said: “Forty years ago as an 18 year-old I hit 192 in a club match in Amersham, so on that frequency I’m looking forward to another biggy when I’m 108!”

“It was just one of those days. Scotcher was brutal as well.”

Hunts are next in action against Northants at Great Oakley next Wednesday. Hunts have only qualified for the knockout stages once before when they were beaten by Lancashire 10 years ago.
