HUNTS batsmen were in explosive form as they saw off Cambs by 63 runs in an under 17 friendly at Sawston.Opener Chris Budd (Nassington) set the tone by smacking his second ball for six on his way to an aggressive 45 off just 33 balls faced.

Captain Jonathan Carpenter (Granta) played the anchor role as Simon Cafferkey (Godmanchester) hammered 49 off 37 balls and Chris Milner (Peterborough Town) and Alex Bandaranaike (Nassington) smacked 50 for the sixth wicket in just eight overs.

Carpenter contributed the top score of 73 as Hunts closed on 266-9 from their 50 overs.

Cambs struggled in reply from the start and managed just 26 from their opening 10 overs thanks to tight bowling from Ali Fox (Wollaston) and Alex Laud (Orton Park).

Patrick Atkinson-Dalziel (Nassington) and Carpenter each took two wickets, while there was a first wicket at county under 17 level for Richard Hingston (Peterborough Town) before Cambs closed on 203-9.

Ramsey U11s 243-6 (L. Smith 20) lost to Huntingdon 243-6 by 21 runs.ALL Saints and Matley won the year five Kwik Cricket competitions at Peterborough Town CC and Stanground College this week.

They will be joined in the county finals at St Ivo next month by runners-up The Beeches and West Town.

All Saints and Beeches both remained unbeaten at Bretton Gate, but the former won the competition because of a superior runs per wicket ratio.

West Town were one of four schools to win one match apiece at Stanground, but again they qualified behind unbeaten Matley by boasting a superior runs per wicket ratio.

HUNTS lost their second successive match in the East of England Under 19 Championships as Essex won a tight game by three wickets at Billericay.
