CITY of Peterborough Swimmers (COPs) have slipped to third in their defence of the Junior Fenland League title.

CITY of Peterborough Swimmers (COPs) have slipped to third in their defence of the Junior Fenland League title. The city club finished second in the third round of the competition at Boston and now sit behind Cambridge and Deeping in the overall standings. Cambridge pipped COPs by six points at Boston.

Eighteen COPs swimmers took part in 43 events. Eight swimmers had to compete in events at higher age groups because they were already too fast for their own age group and in total the COPS swimmers set 28 new personal best times (PBs).

In the nine year-old age group Jenny Hookham (below) took first place in the 50m breaststroke and repeated that performance in the 10 year-old 50m breaststroke. Katie Crowther took first place in the 50m backstroke in a new PB of 49.46 and second in the 50m freestyle.

Lewis Roe followed up his good debut performance in round two with a second place in the 50m freestyle.

Ten year-old Katie Brown took second in the 11-years 50m butterfly while Jacob Butcher took second in the 50m backstroke. Daniel Leigh took second place in the 25m butterfly and set a six-and-a-half second PB in the 50m event.

In the 11 years-and-over age group COPS gained their best points tally. Daniel Brown took first place the 100m individual medley and 50m breaststroke for 12 year olds then completed a hat-trick of wins by taking the 50m breaststroke for 11 year-olds.

Brown's feat was nearly copied by Lewis Chatfield (12) who took two firsts and a second, as did 13 year-old Nathan Tweedie – both setting three new PBs in the process. Josh Graves (12) took first in the 50m freestyle, knocking half-a-second off his previous pb.

Amelia Butler (13) put in a solid performance for the girls with second places in the 50m freestyle and backstroke events, setting new PBs by more than a second in both events.

Result: Cambridge 152; COPS 146; Grantham 123; Boston 'B' 110; Mildenhall 105.
