ATHLETICS: Cambridgeshire Schools have announced their team for the English Schools Championships at Sheffield next month.Bob Smith, chairman of Cambridgeshire Schools Athletic Association, said: “We had 28 qualifiers this year and some good ones at that.

“There are many throwers and hurdlers but no middle distance runners, probably because it’s been too windy to record quick times.

“The junior and intermediate boys teams look especially strong.”

King’s School trio Ben Jones, Jack Jones and Harry Wells are among the Cambs hopes in the inter boys age group while Jack Hunt’s Michael Frankland and Bushfield’s Darrellon Holding go in the 400m.

Ken Stimpson’s Joel Grenfell has already won the English indoor Under 15 long jump title this year and will be hopeful of making the podium in the junior boys age group while Hampton’s Jake Berney makes his English Schools debut in the 200m.

Other Peterborough athletes in the team are Martin Tinkler (Peterborough Regional College), Ed Fitch (Thomas Deacon), Georgie Ivens (Peterborough High School) and Simi Pam (King’s).
