Calling all the old Nag's Head players

A REUNION is being planned for some of the city's finest sporting talent.

A REUNION is being planned for some of the city's finest sporting talent. The old Nag's Head in Whalley Street was arguably the most successful Peterborough pub in terms of sporting achievement.

They had national champions at darts, dominoes and cribbage, pool teams that regularly picked up trophies, and more recently a football team that dominated the Peterborough Sunday Morning League.

The pub closed down two years ago but a couple of the old regulars are planning a reunion for all those people who represented the pub.

Ged Belson, one of the men planning the reunion, said: "It was basically a family pub and generations of families used it – families such as us, the Belsons, Mick Eldred and his family members, the Iresons, the Seatons, the Curries and many more.

"Mick Eldred led the darts team for over 30 years to every local cup and championship with the likes of Dennis Harbour and Ian Kent and other well known England and county players.

"Our football team did the treble and we were national cribbage and dominoes champions. It would be great to get everybody altogether again. That's why I have organised a disco at the Ebeneezers Social Club in Woodston on July 25."

Tickets are 5 and are available now from Ged on 07811756427 or his brother Mick Belson on 07985366808.
