WELLAND Boxing Academy's Damien Stocks has captured a Mid-Anglia title after just four fights. The 25-year-old unbeaten heavyweight won the title when he outpointed Romas Simkus from the Cambridge-based DC Boxing Academy at the Talk Nightclub in Norwich.
Simkus came out with all guns blazing in the first round but Stocks showed good composure, boxing off the backfoot and scoring well with counter-punches.
In the second round Simkus slowed down and Stocks took the initiative, boxing very well with his long range punches making the margin in the scores greater.
Simkus knew he had to pull something out of the bag in the third round and came at Stocks looking to land the big one. He couldn't and Stocks continued to score well with counter-punches to win unanimously on points, the judges scoring it 14-4,14-3 and 12-3.
John Thaxton, the former British, European, Commonwealth and WBF lightweight champion was on hand to congratulate Stocks on his performance.
Stocks now goes on to box for the Eastern Counties Championship on November 11 at the Ocean Rooms in Great Yarmouth.
