City seniors keep their title push going

The Peterborough senior men's team continued their push for Cambs League honours with another maximum 10-point haul.

They swept aside hosts City of Ely B 103-39, but they are still seeking favours from elsewhere to prevent Cambridge Chesterton A from retaining the title.

Mick Fuller, Don Paul, Mick Greaves, Rod Maplethorpe won 31-9.

Norman Gray, Ean Eagle, Peter Haynes, Ray Keating won 27-6.

Joe Martin, Steve Johnson, Phil Afford, Mick Duell won 26-12.

Les Sharp, John Barker, Terry English, Mick Linnell won 19-12.

Meanwhile the rink of Les Sharp, Dick Noble, James Harford and Mick Linnell won the county’s Comny Cup at the City of Ely club at the weekend, beating the St Neots quartet of Barry Kitto, Robbie Coleman, Andy Walton and Hayden Moorbey 26-16.

n Three Hunts bowlers have been selected for England junior international trials next month.

Chloe Brett, daughter of World Bowls Tour number one Nicky who will be playing her bowls from the Parkway club this summer, and Warboys pair Ed Elmore and Harry Ward will be in action at Leamington on Monday, May 29.

With 48 players in the trials, the selection process for the upcoming British Isles Under 25 series – the women in Ireland on July 22/23 and the men in Wales on September 9/10 – will be tough. Those successful will be asked to attend a training day on July 9 when the two squads will be finalised.
