Yaxley bowler Nicky Brett is through to the semi-finals of the Just Retirement World Indoor Championships after beating his pairs partner today (January 22).

World number one Brett eased through against Greg Harlow in straight sets. He cruised through the first set 9-3 before battling to a 7-7 draw in the second set to equal his best-ever run in the tournament. Brett is seeded number two and will now play either Matthew Orrey or David Gourley, who play their quarter-final later tonight.

Brett was always in front in the opening set, even though some of the ends were close. Brett took the last three ends of a very close set with two doubles and a single to close out his good friend.

After three ends of the second set Brett held a 3-1 lead, but Harlow responded taking a double and then a count of three to go 6-5 up in the sixth end. Going into the final end of the set and Harlow led by one 7-6, but Brett found the one shot he required to make the semi-final which will take place at 2pm tomorrow (January 23) at Potters Resort, Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk

Brett hasn’t dropped a set in the tournament yet. He also beat James Rippey 12-3, 8-4 & Les Gillett 9-4, 8-5.

First prize is worth £55,00. Brett has never reached the final in his six previous attempts in the competition.
