WITHIN hours of the rumours of Darren Ferguson's departure bookmakers opened the betting on who would succeed him at London Road with Skybet.com making Peter Taylor and Steve Coppell joint 4-1 favourites.Taylor, once linked with Posh as a player in his days as a flying winger with Crystal Palace, would be returning to London Road for a second time as he had a spell helping with the coaching in the days when director of football Barry Fry was manager.

He is currently out of work, having been sacked by League One strugglers Wycombem while Coppell quit Reading in the summer after failing to get them back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

England legend Alan Shearer is 25-1 to make Posh his first permanent managerial post, having failed to keep Newcastle in the Premier League during an eight-game temporary spell at the end of last season, and his assistant during those eight games - Iain Dowie - is also in the betting at 8-1.

One highly-unlikely name on the list is former Posh boss Mark Wright, who was previously sacked by Fry, while highest on the list of those currently in a managerial post is Oxford manager Chris Wilder who has worked wonders in the Blue Square Premier this season.
