Athletics: Body scorches to a new course record

FORMER Peterborough Athletic Club member Steve Body returned to the area to win the Thurlby 10k on Sunday, breaking his own course record as improving Bourne Town Harrier Matt Grace finished second.Body clocked 32.44 to win by almost two minutes while Bourne won the team title for the sixth year in a row with Rich Lomas-Brown and Matt Green also in the top eight.
Bourne held the 19th race of their club championships within the event and Grace has won all eight races he has so far contested in the 25-event series.
THE Bushy 10k takes place on Sunday (11am from Bushfield Sports Centre) and entries have already reached 300.
The entry limit is 500 so organisers are advising athletes not to leave it until the last minute. The race is the fourth in the Cambs Road League and reigning champions Nene Valley Harriers currently hold a three-point lead over Werrington Joggers.
Veteran Ian Aunger should figure well for Nene Valley while Langtoft 10k runner-up John Herbert makes his debut for Werrington Joggers, who also have the improving Michael Moore and former Cambridgeshire 10-mile champion Paul Halford in action.
Nene Valley also lead the women's series and with Yvonne Scarrott and Ruth Jones in action they can build on that on Sunday.
Cambridge athlete Noel Carroll took maximum points in the Eye 10k and will be one of the favourites for the race.
SEAN Reidy blasted to a season's best when clocking 53.3 in the 400m hurdles in the British League Division One at Eton.
Reidy was competing for London outfit Belgrave Harriers but will be back in action for first-claim club Nene Valley Harriers on Saturday as they compete in the penultimate fixture of their Southern Men's League campaign at Thames Valley.
MARCH athlete Louise Hazel recorded a double for Birchfield Harriers in the Midland League Division One match at Bath.
She won the high jump with 1.65m and the shot with 11.81m.
Fellow March athlete Glen Watts ran for Shaftesbury Barnet in the British League Premiership at Manchester on Saturday, finishing fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase in 9.25.64 and sixth in the 5000m in 15.19.63.
PETERBOROUGH Athletic Club's Carole Filer won the Over 50 long jump at the British Masters Championships in Birmingham, leaping 4.58m. She also took silver in the high jump with 1.35m.
Nene Valley Harrier Stan Owen was second in the Over 55 5000m in 17.41.85 while clubmate Brian Sumner took silver in the Over 70m hammer with 35.80m and was also fourth in the weight event with 11.65m and sixth in the discus with 24.18m.
Hunts Athletic Club's Geoff Brewster took bronze in the Over 50 800m in 2.11.53.
CHRISTIAN Roberts of Hunts Athletic Club and Peterborough Athletic Club's Andy Suter both broke two minutes in the 800m at the Watford Open Graded Meeting
