Peterborough Olympians: Drew Harvey

Drew Harvey: Skeet shooting, Sydney, 2000

Drew Harvey: Skeet shooting, Sydney, 2000Harvey was a trainee quantity surveyor living in Leverington when he travelled half way round the world to compete in the Sydney Olympics.

The British team proved to be the most successful for over 80 years and Harvey was proud to be a small part of it, even though one poor round cost him any chance of a medal.

Harvey recalled: "I had started well and hit 24 out of 25 in the first round, but then I just fell apart in the next round losing any chance I had of a medal.

"Maybe the fact that it was an Olympics played its part. It certainly had a different feel to it, something special that set it apart from a World Championship or a World Cup event."

Meet more Olympians: Chief Sports Writer Alan Swann has traced sportsmen and sportswomen who attended the Olympics while living in the Peterborough area.
