Peterborough Olympians: Nick Dempsey

Nick Dempsey: Windsurfing, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004

Nick Dempsey: Windsurfing, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004Dempsey produced one of the great comebacks to nab a bronze medal in Athens.

The city man, who learned to windsurf at Ferry Meadows while a pupil at Orton Longueville School, knew he had to win the final race to have any chance of a podium finish.

And that's exactly what he did after delivering the performance of a life-time to claim the bronze medal, while the Brazilian competitor who had started the race in the gold medal position slumped to fourth place.

Dempsey had competed in the Sydney Olympics when he finished 16th. He now lives in Weymouth and has been selected for the Beijing Games.

Meet more Olympians: Chief Sports Writer Alan Swann has traced sportsmen and sportswomen who attended the Olympics while living in the Peterborough area.
