NENE Valley Harrier Grace Mullins recorded her first North Midlands Cross-Country League success of the winter at Nottingham and walked away with the Under 17 title.

Having finished runner-up in each of the first three fixtures, Mullins won by almost a minute on Saturday while clubmate Charlotte Taylor also produced an excellent run to finish second in the senior women’s race.

The English Schools bronze medallist for 3000m and cross-country finished second in the final Under 20 standings while the other two Nene Valley athletes in the senior women’s race on Saturday - Nicky Morgan and Tracey Lazenby - both ended the season as runners-up in their age groups.

Ollie Oakley, Jonathan Friend and Elliott Bellamy all finished in the top 10 as Nene Valley finished first team in the mixed Under 11 race on Saturday.

Stamford-based England international Aaron Scott defeated Lincoln’s Matt Bowser for the second successive weekend, having also relegated him to second place at the Lincolnshire Cross-Country Championships.

Scott, already assured of the title having won the opening three races, went clear after a mile-and-a-half and went on to win by 19 seconds.

He said: “I averaged 5.03 per mile for seven miles which isn’t too bad.”

Scott won the Frostbite League the following day, running 6.5 milers beforehand, then racing before finishing with a 6.5-mile warm-down.
