Ben Heron had his wings clipped by a Muddy Mucky Monkey at Eye on Sunday.

The winner of the previous week’s Langtoft 10k met his match at the Eye 10k losing out by just three seconds to Tom Bracegirdle of the unusually named Cambridge club.

Heron, representing the host club Eye Community Runners, was two minutes down on his winning time at Langtoft with a 34.27 clocking.

Alan Oliver of Sleaford Striders finished third, but Peterborough AC took the team prize thanks to fine grouping from Daniel Snipe (5th) James Whitehead (6th) and Shaun Walton (7th).

James Skinner of Stamford Striders took the Over 40 prize with an impressive fourth place, while fellow Strider Brian Kearney won the Over 65 category.

Terry Fone of Eye was first Over 70.

Nene Valley’s Philippa Taylor returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory in the ladies race. Taylor acknowledged that she felt far from comfortable in the heat, and had to settle for a disappointing time of 39:33.

Ramsey Road Runner Lisa Marriott was a minute further back in the runners-up spot.

Nene Valley were the winning ladies team with Ruth Jones (5th) and Laura Grimer (7th) supporting Taylor.

Anne Wood of Werrington Joggers was first Over 55.
