Korkmaz is in seventh heaven over call-ups for her young guns

SEVEN members of Denise Korkmaz’s young squad at Peterborough Athletic Club represented Cambridgeshire at the weekend.
Korkmaz, wife of Deeping Rangers football boss Tuncay, coaches the Under 11 and Under 13 girls’ teams at the club and had Casey Hilliam , Alex Pullan and Amy Gore in action at the Anglian Schools Cross-Country Championships at Ipswich.
As reported in yesterday’s Evening Telegraph, Hilliam finished 20th in the minor girls race and was the first Peterborough girl home.
Four of Korkmaz’s squad - daughter Serena, Holly Brown, Megan Sims and Reannah McNee - represented Cambs in the regional final of the UK Athletics Sportshall Athletics Championships at Norwich.
Sims and Korkmaz ran 57.6 and 58.1 respectively for the four-lap race, McNee clocked 1.33.4 for the six-lap race and 69 seconds in the speed bounce while Brown managed a best of 52 centimetres for the vertical jump.
