STAMFORD Strider Simon Fell finished fifth in the Brass Monkey 10k at Corby in a personal best of 35.24.
Clubmate Jim Morris finished 13th with fellow Stamford athletes Mark Popple and Paul Massingham also in the top 20 while Alan Hayes improved his personal best to 39.22.
Next week, on Sunday, February 12, the club stage their St Valentine’s 30k race.
The event - which starts at Queen Eleanor School, off Green Lane in Stamford, and runs through Tolethorpe, Careby, Pickworth and Great Casterton - will see around 750 competitors tackling the tough course and was ranked second best in its category (other distances) in leading magazine Runner’s World’s top UK races of 2011.
Among the leading local entrants are John Herbert and Michael Moore - who are currently warm-weather training in Portugal - plus Nene Valley Harriers clubmates Steve Cockrell, Sean Beard, Paul Lunn and Philippa Taylor.
Bushfield Jogger Brian Corleys and Werrington Jogger Jeff Lucas are also running. Tipton’s Ben Gamble, a 67-minute half-marathoner, is among the favourites.
