Founded on April 1 1977 with just a handful of Peterborough-based athletes, the club has grown to the extent that it now boasts several hundred members from across Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire, with training groups as far afield Crowland and Boston.

The Harriers have boasted numerous national and international champions in track and field, and distance runners such as Ray Church and Giovanni Rizzo approached local legend status.

The highly respected youth set-up has fed a steady supply of talented athletes through the age groups to compete successfully at senior level, one of whom, Charlotte Taylor, has established herself as one of Britain’s finest up and coming athletes.

The Harriers enjoyed perhaps their greatest season in 2015 when competing in the second tier of the British Athletics Men’s League as well as winning the Southern League.

The anniversary will be marked at the annual awards evening next month, and there will be a special celebration on Saturday September 9 with an all-day event at the Embankment.

Full details will be announced shortly, but it will be a day with plenty of activities, athletic and otherwise, for the Nene Valley family both past and present to enjoy.
