Nene Valley Harrier Alex Hampson gained the top local placing at the big English Schools Cross-Country Championships in Blackburn on Saturday.

Hampson, aged 16, placed 39th in the Under 20 boys race completing the 6.7km course in 26.10.

His Harriers team-mate James McCrae (17) was just behind in 43rd place.

Under 20 Boys: 177 Joel Reed; 194 Jevan Robertson; 210 Artem Chymbai; 265 Michael Cawood.

Under 17 Boys: 151 Oliver Bowling.

Under 15 Boys: 339 Keilin Spurdens.

Under 20 Girls: 168 Milly Tovey; 258 Phoebe Whattoff; 287 Beth Howells.

Under 17 Girls: 94 Megan Ellison.

Under 15 Girls: 246 Amber Park; 333 Paul Naylor.

Peterborough Athletic Club’s Steve Robinson was fourth in the Newton’s Fraction Half-Marathon in Grantham on Sunday in a time of 77.13.

The race was won in 74.46 by Iain Bailey from the RAF.
