HAMPTON athlete Neil Addison returned to action in Sunday's Bushy 10k and finished second behind Stuart Nelson of Rugby and Northampton.Addison recently decided to take a short break from the sport after going down with one too many illnesses but he came within nine seconds of making a winning return around the streets of Orton.
The speedy policeman said: "I'd been back running for a week and my coach was keen for me to get a race under my belt just to see where I am at. I had three or four weeks of doing nothing and then did four or five steady runs so I decided to give it a go.
"I didn't go off too hard and I felt okay at first and caught the leader around 5k. I stayed with him for as long as I could but dropped back around 8k.
"It gets very frustrating when you keep getting ill so I'll try to keep the mileage down and concentrate more on quality training than quantity."
Both Nelson and Addison were inside Nick Grimer's year-old course record of 34.02. Paul Halford finished third, one of three Werrington Joggers in the top 10 with John Herbert making a fine club debut in seventh and Michael Moore finishing 10th.
Stamford Strider Philippa Taylor was a convincing winner of the women's race with Werrington's Eli Scott smashing her personal best in third.
BARNACK athlete Matt Gunby blasted to victory in the Whissendine 6, beating fellow former Peterborough Athletic Club member Steve Body by 31 seconds.
Matt Grace had an excellent run in fourth to lead Bourne Town Harriers to team success.
