Angry QPR boss Harford refuses to attend press conference

QPR caretaker-manager Mick Harford declined to face the media after his side's shock 1-0 Championship defeat at rock-bottom Posh.

QPR caretaker-manager Mick Harford declined to face the media after his side's shock 1-0 Championship defeat at rock-bottom Posh.Harford was afraid of making comments about referee Danny McDermid which would land him in trouble with the football authorities.

McDermid dismissed QPR midfielder Mikele Leigertwood for serious foul play midway through the second half and full-back Peter Ramage followed him down the tunnel eight minutes from time after picking up a second caution.

Both players were shown red cards following incidents with recalled Posh wing-back Tommy Rowe.

A statement from the QPR press office was issued. It read: "Neither Mick Harford or the players will be attending the post-match press conference for fear of saying things about the referee which would land them in trouble."

It's understood the visiting camp were unhappy with the treatment of Leigertwood. Posh midfielder Charlie Lee received a yellow card in the first half for a similar-looking tackle.

Lee was withdrawn at the interval partly because of a dead leg, but also because there was a fear he would get sent off later in the match.

Surrey-based McDermid is no stranger to controversy. He was once charged with using abusive language towards then Leeds United manager Dennis Wise after a game at Gillingham when he sent two Leeds players off.

McDermid was fould not guilty, while Wise was fined 5,000 for the comments he made after that game.
