Angling: Mel sees off his son to win the Fenland Rods match

It can be a real family affair in the Fenland Rods matches these days with several father and son combinations regularly taking part and often winning.

It can be a real family affair in the Fenland Rods matches these days with several father and son combinations regularly taking part and often winning.Last weekend in sweltering conditions on the day ticket lake at Decoy Mel Lutkin came out on top from peg 18, weighing in a level 65lb of carp to see off the challenge of son Matthew who came second on 60lb. Both fished pellet and paste. Kev Lee was third on 50lb followed by Dave Garner on 45lb.

Factory Bank can be a cracking little venue in the winter months but the Ramsey AS anglers decided to fish their Thursday evening match on it following several recent sightings of big fish.

None came to the net so Paul Kilby took the top spot with 4lb 5oz of small roach and perch.

Second was Ivan Steels on 3lb 3oz followed by Andrew Kilby with 2lb 4oz.

Sunday's club match on the Forty Foot drain produced a much better result, Kevin Peacock coming first with a net of tench taken close in for 21lb 3.5oz, all fell to a worm hook bait.

Runner-up with 16lb was Roger Gowler followed by Andrew Kilby with 6lb 11oz.
