In the latest Saturday qualifier for the Rookery Waters £1,000 two-day final, it was Ben Townsend on peg five who ran out a very comfortable winner.
Using dead maggots over groundbait and meat short, he put a very respectable 123lb 4oz to the scales.
A very close contest for the runner-up spot saw Mark Cross (88lb 6oz) just edge out venue expert Tony Dawson (88lb 4oz). Both caught on pellet long and bunches of maggot over micros or groundbait. There was some consolation for Dawson in the Over 60s midweek match as he put a fine 109lb 12oz net to the scales to top a small but strong field.
Runner-up on 96lb 8oz was John Belshaw, then came Kevin Peacock on 94lb 10oz.
A few better fish have been taken from the Damson Pool at Decoy since the turn of the year, but in the Ramsey & District Angling Society match there on Sunday it was those fishing for the small carp that had the best of the action.
Leading the way from peg one was John Price, who fished close in with maggot for 62lb 8oz. Second from peg 17 was Dave Yardy on 56lb 4oz, then it was Rob Wright with 54lb 8oz.
