Horseshoe Lake on the Decoy complex continues to be one of the most productive right now.

Despite a bitterly cold night, the Conservative Club anglers saw some very respectable weights recorded on the venue in their latest match.

Pete Holland.

Leading the way with 72lb 8oz from peg 13 was John Newman.

He is one of those anglers who resists the temptation to chop and change tactics. Instead he relies on a good old-fashioned red maggot approach fished on a short pole line. And who is to say it’s wrong as week after week he catches fish?

Runner-up on peg 12 was Ian Bradshaw, who caught all his fish on a small Method feeder and a small dumb-bell pellet for 51lb.

Third was Terry Tribe with 32lb 2oz. He also caught on a feeder approach.

JVAC

There were some good weights taken from the Elm Pool at Decoy in the latest JVAC match, which saw all the leading anglers catching on red maggot.

Top rod with 104lb 1oz was Ernie Lowbridge, who fished the margins catching carp and barbel.

It was much the same for runner-up Roy Whincup, who weighed in 92lb 4oz, just ahead of Nick Carlton with 90lb 1oz.

RAMSEY

Ramsey & District Angling Society fished Six Islands at Decoy on Sunday and found most pegs producing fish.

Out in front from peg 17 was Pete Holland. He fished the pole with pellet taking fish on the deck and even a few up in the water to finish on 105lb.

In second place was Rob Wright on peg 11. He also caught on the pole with pellet putting 99lb 4oz to the scales.

Third was Andrew Rayment on 65lb and fourth Dave Williams with 54lb 12oz.

This weekend the club are back at Decoy, this time on Horseshoe and they still have a few pegs available.

HOTPOINT

Tyrone Horn is the man to beat right now in the Hotpoint matches.

In Sunday’s fixture on the famous Beastie Lake at Decoy he topped the field with 72lb 14oz.

He had very little to show for his efforts in the first half of the match, but heavy feeding with maggot on a short pole line eventually saw the silvers and F1s feeding to push him well clear of the chasing pack.

Runner-up was Brian Faulkner, who drew peg 28 and caught on a small feeder for 49lb 2oz. Next came Pete Sanderson with 44lb 8oz.

HOTPOINT

Over the past few weeks several anglers fishing matches at Decoy Lakes have been disqualified due to going over the weight limit of 60lb in a net.

I am certainly not going to name names as I have some sympathy.

I have always found it difficult to guess the exact weight of fish, so to avoid being disqualified I tend to err on the side of caution and guess at around the 40lb mark, much over that and you are asking for trouble.

We all know the fishery rules though so we can’t blame anyone else if we go way over the fishery limit.

HADDON LODGE

Pellet seems to be the in-bait at Haddon Lodge right now, contrary to most other waters.

Top rod in Sunday’s match was Lucio Melillo, who caught on the long pole with expander pellet to run out a clear winner on 23lb 8oz.

Fishery bailiff Cliff Fuller put 17lb 11oz to the scales, then came Martin Harwood on 12lb 9oz.
