JVAC lads finish runners-up in the big Supercup Final

It was a day to remember for the JVAC lads taking part in the Angling Times/Bait-Tech Supercup Final at Barston Lakes on Saturday.

They took the runners-up spot, but fell 17 points off the clear winners Cwmbran Angling Nobblers.

Our city side had a mixed bag of pegs at the draw which did not help and some very poor conditions throughout the day, but I have to say they put in a cracking team effort and they had Andy Kelk take fourth place with 66lb 1oz

JVAC

Andy Gausden has been one of the main players in this year’s Supercup team but missed out on a place in the JVAC side that took the runners-up spot in the final due to work commitments.

He made up for it on Sunday fishing the club’s match on the Cedar Pool at Decoy Lakes.

He took a comfortable victory from peg 24 fishing shallow with casters then later switched to the margins to finish with 201lb 12oz.

Runner-up was Mike Mitchell, who caught close in all day from peg 18 for 192lb 4oz, then came Dave Corcoran on 190lb 2oz. He caught barbel on red maggot.

EASTERN REGION SHIELD

It has been a really good weekend for local sides fishing major events as the Sensas Mark One squad completely dominated the Eastern Region Shield match fished on the Middle Level Drain on Sunday.

The only downside to the day was the lack of numbers fishing this prestigious team event. A complete overhaul is needed to get it all back on track.

Let’s take nothing away from the Mark One sides though. It was still a very strong line-up.

They took the top three team placings which I am sure will go down as a record, probably never to be achieved again.

Sensas Mark One (Red) made up of Dave Williams, Chris Lynn, Andy Spencer, Jack Damant and Mike Kirby took the title with a 46-point scorecard and also had the added pleasure of seeing Spencer top the individual list with 8.30kg from D section and team-mate Jack Damant finish runner-up with 7.14kg from E section.

The squad will now switch their attention to the upcoming East Midland Winter League tand an eagerly-awauted battle woth Browning Hotrods.

Peterborough &District AA held their latest fixture on the high bank at Gunwade Lake, Ferry Meadows.

With no wind to speak of and bright sunshine it was no surprise to see the weights lower than anticipated.

Out in front in a very evenly contested match fishing peg 28 on long pole was Nigel Briggs with a good net of roach for 8lb 12oz taken on hempseed.

Runner-up from peg 32 was Mike Smith catching roach and hybrids on a long pole using worm and maggot over groundbait for a weight of 7lb 3oz. Third was Richard Linnell with 6lb 4 oz.
