ANGLING: King Edwards best on Partridge Lakes again

He fished the Junior National at Partridge Lakes in Warrington and retained the crown he won last year.

Sometimes we tend to forget that Edwards is so young as for the past 18 months he has been mixing it with some of the best anglers in the country and has certainly been a force to be reckoned with.

So much has to go right for you just to record a decent weight in big nationals though, let alone win it two years on the trot.

But Edwards did it in style, moving around his peg to keep the fish coming all day to put 118lb to the scales.

And it gets better as his team also won and to make his day complete he was told he will go through to the Fish O’Mania Junior Final which will be covered live on TV.

It’s a wonderful achievement for Edwards, a local angler destined for the top.

FERRY MEADOWS

On the local match-fishing scene, the Feedermaster Qualifier took place on Ferry Meadows on Sunday and attracted a very strong field.

Leading the way was Brian Clark, a Scot now based in Telford who travelled down to fish this fine bream water.

He drew peg 113 in the favoured area in Overton and made no mistake catching from the off.

He finished with 93lb 10z of maggot-caught bream and qualified for the final at Bough Beech.

Runner-up was England Feeder team manager Tom Pickering. He was on peg 110 and put 71lb 8oz onto the scales again catching almost from the start.

Phil Ringer, another member of the England Feeder team, fished at distance on peg four to finish third with 47lb 6oz.

CONSERVATIVE CLUB

The Conservative club switched their match on Saturday onto the Small Carp Lake at Kingsland Fishery which saw Bob Walker return to form catching 126lb 6oz of carp up in the water on floating baits.

In second place was Ian Bradshaw, who netted some big fish on bread to finish with 119lb 3oz.

Third with 99lb 11oz was John Parnell.

DEEPING ST JAMES

Deeping St James anglers also fished the Small Carp Lake at Kingsland for the Jim Measurers Memorial Cup on Sunday.

Jon Bowland, fishing his first match of the year, took the honours winning the cup for the second year running.

He fished the long pole up in the water with small pieces of meat and caught steadily all match netting carp into double figures to weigh in 114lb 3oz.

Runner-up was Tony Johnson on peg three with 80lb 1oz and third was Ray Torrington on peg six with 64lb 2oz.

TUESDAY CLUB

Tuesday Club’s first match of the season was on the Bower, which was running slow with not a lot of colour making fishing difficult at times.

The winner was Jim Inwood on peg 21 with 8lb 4oz which consisted of two nice chub and a perch over 2lb on worm.

Runner-up on peg three was Mike Smith with 5lb 8oz of small bream and roach and Keith Rounding was third with 5lb 4oz.
