When the fish start to feed you can usually rely on Gus Gausden to put in an appearance.
And he duly did just that in Sunday’s JVAC club match fished on the Horseshoe Pool on the Decoy complex topping a very strong field with 95lb 2oz.
He drew peg 14, a swim with little form so far this year, but which always has the potential to pop up some big weights.
Gausden fished a pole and pellet approach and similar tactics saw Mick Mitchell put in a good show from unfancied peg 12. He weighed in 93lb 2oz to take second place followed by Andy Gausden on peg one with 76lb 4oz.
DECOY MONDAY OPEN
It turned out to be a good weekend for Gus Gausden as he went on to win the Decoy Monday Open on the Beastie Pool with a fine 124lb 8oz.
Lots more big weights followed as Simon Dow came in second on 120lb 10oz followed by Andy Schopax on 120lb 2oz.
Peterborough Conservative Angling Club fished their latest fixture on the Cedar Pool at Decoy.
Unfortunately the high winds on the day made it tough going for most of the field although those at the car park end did enjoy some much better action.
John Parnell took top spot from peg 23 with a level 84lb, most of his fish falling to a feeder with red maggot.
Chris Nicholson came in second. He was also fishing feeder tactics recording 80lb 12oz followed by Mark Parnell on 65lb 9oz.
Oakham AC fished the Six Island Pool at Decoy with Alan Wiggins winning from peg 22.
He put 100lb 4oz to the scales, all taken on paste, and that’s a sure sign sport is on the up as the paste anglers don’t usually score until we’ve got rid of frosts.
City rod Ian Bullimore put 99lb 1oz to the scales from peg one for second place. He caught well on pellet.
Then came Paddy Morley with 96lb 10oz and Dale Stones with a level 93lb.
DECOY TUESDAY OPEN
In the Decoy Lakes Tuesday Open match fished on the Beastie Lake, a good turnout saw some very respectable weights taken and just ounces separated the top two.
Out in front with a fine 112lb 4oz from peg 15 was the Dynamite Baits-backed rod Chris Barley.
Runner-up Chris Neal went agonisingly close with 112lb 3oz, followed by Ray Pauley with 108lb 12oz.
The last two pegs out of the hat turned out to be good draws in the regular Over 55s match on the Beastie Pool at Decoy.
The consistent Vince Hull pole-fished corn and pellet from peg 12 for a mainly carp bag weighing in 66lb 1oz.
He was pushed all the way by Ted Rowe from unfancied peg 20 with a worm and caster caught mixed net of carp, tench, skimmers and ide for 64lb 15oz, then came Jay Richardson on 58lb 6oz.
