Angling: Railway back on right track

A water that has often been neglected by some of our local clubs is Railway Lakes at Whittlesey.

A water that has often been neglected by some of our local clubs is Railway Lakes at Whittlesey.Brothers Tony and Paul Hudson have put a lot of time and effort into the fishery and have recently restocked the fishery so it's well worth a visit if you fancy a change of venue.

On Sunday, Allsorts AC fished the small match lake and found the resident stock willing to feed. In first place was Paul Dotchin with 42lb 7oz all caught on the feeder with sweetcorn.

Runner-up with 35lb 1oz was new member Colin Green, who fished the pole tight to an island, again with corn, followed by Simon Dow, who had 30lb 8oz.

Fenland Rods' match on the North View Lakes at Gedney Hill saw Neil Garner going home with the top spot weighing in a fine 108lb 5oz and taken from the golden peg which saw him bag the 100 jackpot!

Garner kept it simple but very effective, paste over pellet close in.

The consistent Tim Bates came second taking fish up in the water on pellet weighing 85lb 6oz followed by Bill Foster with 80lb 8oz.

While quite a few of the lakes at Decoy have seen the carp back on the feed after spawning, JVAC found those fish in the Horseshoe Pool very reluctant to feed, much more intent in chasing each other around.

Top rod from peg four was Andy Gausden, who fished caster for most of the day, finishing with 57lb 3oz. Runner up was Mick King on 49lb 15oz followed by Martin Howard with 44lb 1oz.
